The new CPZ certainly has had the desired effect on commuter parking in Queens Road (though in one respect a bonkers road marking anomaly directly outside my house means that my own parking has taken on a bizarre twist that wasn't necessary before).…

Unchanged Borough Boundaries

With a bit more hype about elections just lately (European Parliament ElectionDay being Thursday 4 June), I've been asked a few times about boundary changes. So to allay any fears and to try to sort out any lingering confusion, I'm posting this as a blog:

There is no truth whatsoever in the story that any road in this neighbourhood is about to be transferred from Bromley Borough to Lewisham Borough. The Borough boundaries remain the same as they have been ever since 1965. Nobody is planning to… Continue

Reg - thank you for your response to my earlier request for an update on what was happening regarding the CPZ.

However, would appreciate knowing why Clock House Rd which has got to be the worst (or at least one of worst) roads for congestion is being zoned from midday and how this works? I've found on the whole that the process of getting your car parked starts around the station (Clock House) and fans out as the spaces for the cars disappear. However, sure you have a clearer perspective on this.

Thx
Sarah

PS - the war comment was tongue in cheek I promise! I too wish we'd spent more time discussing and less throwing our troops in!

Dear Mr Packham,

The Environment PortfolioHolder (Cllr Colin Smith) and I have just received a Council Officer's report from the Highways & Footways Maintenance Section, the relevant extracts being:

"The footways in Westfield Road are made up of artificial stone paving with blacktop margin. It is an old design where cross-overs also have paving slabs consisting of sizes ranging from 600 by 450mm to 600 by 900mm. These slabs keep breaking with vehicle over-ride and for this reason it was included in Priority 3 list – Planned Highway Maintenance April 2011 to March 2014. Last year when we carried out our annual assessment, it was found there are more pressing schemes to be undertaken during the next two years.

I have checked the Street Section History Report. The footway was last inspected on 23/01/2009 and minor maintenance works in front of No 11, 14 and No 24 were carried out. I also inspected Westfield Road today. The footways are in fair condition. I did not notice any trip hazards. Aesthetically the footway looks poor. Unfortunately maintenance for aesthetic reasons does not have priority.

We are about to carry out our annual assessment to formulate the next three years' rolling programme. All streets short-listed from our condition-surveys and also streets featuring in existing programme (Priority 3), including Westfield Road, will be reviewed as part of a road condition assessment. This will be carried out in order to reassess their condition ensuring that schemes are considered for inclusion into an annual programme of planned major refurbishment works on a priority basis in accordance with standards and resources set by the Council."

I would certainly appreciate hearing any further comments you have in order to formulate a proper response.

Regards, REG

Dear Mr Adams. I write in connection with the overall state of the paving in Westfield Road. The paving is poor and the road has never enjoyed the benefit of being re-paved like so many others in the area, despite being a well used pavement for people walking to anmd from the High Street. The state of the driveways in some instances are poor too. I have tripped up twice over the oast 2 months and feel it is about time this often neglected road (particulary for street cleaning - it's never been deeply cleansed, like for example, Hayne Road). Could you kindly make investigations to whoever you know on Bromley Council to find out when they will get round to renewing the poor pavements and driveways for me please. I hope to hear from you soon and thnak you in anticiapation. Mike Packham
