Head of Digital at leading indepedent media advertising agency www.SpaceAndTime.eu.com, I've been in advertising for many years, the last 14 in digital, and worked for 3 out of the top 5 UK advertising agencies, including running my own digital business which moved from Beckenham into The City, before being lured back out of the big smoke to work in Reigate at what is easily the best well run agency I've ever worked at. You don't need to have a London office to be excellent and creative.
I'm never more at home then when talking about, testing or creating ads and tech ideas and I've started quite a few websites and social media solutions for local, national and international clients. A total Mad Men with advertising running through my blood, it's true. I like to share and help others and run www.mediastarz.co.uk a community for those interested in advertising.
I always believed there was a genuine need for a local website in Beckenham that was totally inclusive for everyone, independent and easy to use and so BeckenhamTown.us was born. I hope you enjoy it, join it and use it regularly.
If you'd like to advertise on the website and help pay the hosting fees, then email me at jclarke @ ic24 .net

WOW! Thanks!
I am so pleased to see that the website has once again increased numbers year on year, especially as I thought the huge increase the year before due to the marvellous patronage it got over the terrible summer riots few days had perhaps over inflated it. Well although we had a BeckenhamOlympic Torch surge the increase in users and especially members has been so rewarding to all the time I spend on adding things here and tweeting via @Beckenham
Some…

Here's a really quick way to find out if you or your clients have had their pics and vids pinned in Pinterest and by whom.
Type into your browser - http://pinterest.com/source/
and after the last forward slash type in a full web address
If you get a 404 message then no-one has pinned a pic or vid yet
Handy little hint that :-)

Hi Neighbours
The website is now well past the 1000 members mark and over the past month I added a few more sections to it, so please do check them all out and help them grow by using them regularly.
1. Volunteering - is a new tab that clicks through to a group to join and post any volunteer opportunities you know about locally or also perhaps ones you would like to volunteer for. It's both…

Hi everyone!
CONGRATULATIONS!
I just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone for being part of the website and posting so much great content, we finally sailed past the 1000th signed up member of the BeckenhamTown.us website last week, plus the Twitter following rocketed past 3000 too.
These are really great mile stones to pass and if anything the figures are increasing quicker as you all share the website, Twitter and Facebook pages with friends, colleagues…

I just bought a CD for my Dad for Christmas. It's okay, he's not au-fait with computers and so there is no chance of him seeing this and learning of the obscure 60s Swedish jazz pianist I've found him.
What I just received as a 'Thank you' in my email from the Internet music retailer, CD Baby, made me laugh so much and is easily the best little message I've been greeted with on buying anything on the Net. It costs nothing to say thanks they say, well these guys went further…

Hi Jon: Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. My colleagues, the eleven LibDem Councillors on Lewisham Council, issued the appended press-release about the A&E closure. But the position on Beckenham Beacon Hospital is less clear. The Administrator is not talking about closing that but says he wants to expand the number of services, though evidently Physiotherapy and X-rays will probably be moved to Farnborough.
Lewisham A&E threatened by Woolwich hospital’s PFI mess
A dodgy finance scheme used by a Woolwich hospital could cause the closure of Lewisham’s Accident & Emergency Department. The Private Finance Initiative (PFI) was strongly supported by the last Labour Government, when hospitals were encourage to sign risky contracts with private funders. Under Labour, Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich signed a PFI contract that is now causing the hospital to lose millions of pounds every month. As a result it is now being proposed that Queen Elizabeth becomes the main A&E for the Lewisham area as well, to help raise more money for the debt-ridden hospital in Woolwich.
A ‘Special Administrator’ appointed by the Government has proposed closing Lewisham’s A&E and other departments to help restore Queen Elizabeth Hospital to financial health.
Lewisham’s Liberal Democrats have reacted angrily to the proposals, saying Lewisham residents should not have to suffer for mistakes made by a Woolwich Hospital. Leader of Lewisham’s Lib Dems, Cllr Chris Maines, has also called for the PFI contract to be re-negotiated, something the Special Administrator failed to consider. Cllr Maines commented, “The solution to stem the £1 million per week debt is to re-negotiate the PFI contract. The Special Administrator, Matthew Kershaw, has failed to consider this in his recommendations, even though it could resolve the problem without closing Lewisham’s A&E Department. His list of closures and downgrades fails to deal with real problem, which is PFI. Labour told us that PFI was good for hospitals and claimed the private sector would take on any financial risk. This was always a myth. In reality it’s the NHS that has to take on the risk and patients that suffer when PFI contracts siphon off the money. We call on the Special Administrator to look seriously at re-negotiating the South London Healthcare’s PFI contract as a way of dealing with this mess.”
Lewisham LibDems are urging local residents to sign the petition to save Lewisham A&E. See

Congratulations on your web initiative to create a forum for ideas and discussion for Beckenham
Since 2004/5, Beckenham has lost many services having previously had a Hospital, Police Station, Day Care Centre fro the main stream elderly and also a Job Centre.
I would encourage all your respondents to join me in writing to our new M.P. and encouraging him to reverse the trend. Beckenham with its special and historic identity deserves better treatment from a remote Bromley Council and we should aspire to having our old Town Hall restored so that we can manage our own affairs once more.
A Police Office open 2 hours a fortnight is unacceptable as is an area the size of Penge and Beckenham with no NHS beds.
Even our Parliamentary boundary is a nonsense with the Post Office, Library, Baths all in the Lewisham Constituency.
There is much that needs to change and now is the time to push for it given the national and local political mood,
Thank you again for your splendid initiative,
Best wishes,
Rod Reed.(Lifelong Beckenham resident)
