Beckenham Town Football Club's Wembley dream is still alive as they make the 2nd round proper of the FA Vase.
My first ever football game my parents took me to at the tender age of 6 was the FA Trophy/Vase Final at Wembley back in the early 70s where my home team Enfield lost 0-2 to a green shirted Hendon. I still have the rosette somewhere and from around that time I was hooked on football.
Now all these years later, with a young family of my own the non-league tradition of going to see the local team has been renewed. I'm thoroughly enjoying supporting and so are my two small girls the Reds of Beckenham Town in the FA Vase.
I was mildy bemused at the possibility of Teddy Sherringham appearing at their Eden Park ground and actually playing, so I turned up at their first qualifying round match to see if the rumours were true. But although Teddy was busy elsewhere, I saw a great game that Becks won 6-1 versus Wealden, then came the 2-0 home win over Banstead Athletic.
So with 2 wins in 2 games the first away game of the Vase run was drawn and I thought what the heck, the girls were up for it, Teddy or no Teddy, and so we headed to Cobham Town's ground where Mole Valley are groundsharing and watched, not technically the best game yet, but what turned out to be
another win 1-0 and so now the run is definately on and we await the
2nd round draw at the FA's new headquarters at Wembley at 1.00pm this Monday.
I've been twittering up to the minute in-game match reports for the last 3 games and will continue to do so, if you can't make the next game but want to know how your local team is getting on in the FA Vase then Follow Me on

It's a great way to support the grass roots of football, see a decent game and know that one's support and admission money is appreciated by the club and its players, more than many Premiership teams and their over paid players.
