The Planning department has just received Citygate’s application for Planning Permission and listed building consent for alterations. I am advised that a decision should be made within 8 weeks. We are meeting Citygate shortly to discuss the outstanding issues on the legal documentation so, subject to this being finalised, it is anticipated that Citygate could start work in February.

It is now well beyond 8 weeks since John reported to us. Where are we now as to the granting of planning permission and the oustanding legal issues. there is no sign of any work at the Studio and it is now February 10th.

Man from council says:

I spoke to the planner dealing with the case last week. There is a minor issue with the proposal for the external lift. The planners want it constructed in a way that it does not become a permanent part of the building and can be removed at later date if required (there was similar requirement for HJA’s external lift). A revised drawing has been requested and, if in order, this should enable the grant of consent.

We still have a couple of sticking points on the legal agreements, but I am hoping these should be resolved shortly. I am anticipating then that Citygate would want to start work soon after.

Quick update on planning application re The Studio, filed by Citygate. They are planning to install:
1) A disabled-access lift; 2) A covered baby/toddler-buggy store; 3) A glazed entrance canopy to the northern elevation of the building; 4) General refurbishment. The Application has been assigned Application No. 09/03280. All the drawings, design & support statements are downloadable from Bromley Council's Planning website at:

The original application was received by the Council on 19 Nov 2009, registered on 12 Jan 2010, validated on 18 Mar 2010. Standard & Neighbour consultations, i.e. invitations to comment, were posted on 25 March 2010. Deadline for replies 15 April 2010. Will probably be determined by a Plans SubCommittee, date to be announced: I will aim to post to this forum when I know when.

As John Getgood stated earlier, Citygate will probably aim to start work on the project during the Summer, as soon as they have the necessary approvals in hand.

Could you resupply the link to the latest online News Shopper Studio story? I just end up on the News Shopper main search page but still can't find the item even from there. Or maybe I'll just have to visit our paper recycling bin that reeks of foxes to see if ours is there. Like the mighty and weighty Yellow Pages (the forests get cut down, the workers make Yellow Pages, more workers deliver it to us and we chuck it in the bin, still in it's wrapping) the News Shopper is instantly recycled, pages unturned.

Hi,

I am new to this discussion, but i have some feedback that would answer some of the questions that have been raised. I also have a few questions myself that maybe you could answer.

First off, i am up for seeing the Studio back up and running, i have been to it a few times when it was in control from private owners and the council. I felt it was useful and i hope that it can be useful for other people too.

Some of what i have found out. We all know that Citygate have now got the go ahead after the lift permission have been accepted.
I have heard that Citygate plan to get the studio back up and running soley for the community, they will not use it for religious activities by themselves, it is for use by the community, this include gay, lesbians and bi groups, as they are also part of the community (this is raised from a question earlier in the discussion).
The aim for Citygate taking over the the Studio was to give the studio back to the community and run a range of activities from it, as the council could not carry on running it.

The news is that the studio is going ahead now and work will start on it soon.

It would be good to know how the relaunch will actually affect the community, what services and activities are going to be offered and what will bring people to use the Studio.

One main concern of mine is how much confidence does the community have in the Studio, as it changed hands so many times and close for a while now.

It will be good to see how this plans out and if anyone knows the answer to some of these questions it would be good.

Dear Matt and other Studio supporters. As we represent the Community, should we not be approaching Citygate about setting up a meeting e.g. in the hall of Elm Road Baptist Church across the road where they tell us their plands, invite questions etc.?

PLEASE SEE DISCUSSION STARTED IN JUNE REGARDING CITYGATES PLAN'S - CAMPAIGN GROUP WISH TO GET THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED IN PROCESS. I THINK YOUR PROPOSAL IS A GOOD IDEA - ANYONE ELSE AGREE ?

The Planning Application will be determined at a Plans Sub-committee meeting on Thursday 12th August at 7.00 pm in the Civic Centre. The recommendation is for permission, subject to agreement on detail. Members of the public who have already written to the council regarding the application can register to speak (at the Chairman's discretion) by telephoning 020 8313 4745 by 10 am on the Wednesday before the meeting.
