Does anyone else have issues with the standard of rubbish and recycling collection?
Here are my issues:
- Waste bin lid not replaced (ours is on a hinge, so it's not like they have to pick it up off the floor!), even when it's raining;
- Paper recycling bin lid thrown to the ground (damaging it so creating sharp/jagged edges);
- Recycling bins thrown across the path;
- Items from the various bins left on the ground, not just on my property but also on the pavements and the road (the road looks much untidier after the binmen have just been along).
Does anyone else get this happening along their road?
And it's not just the 'municipal waste removal operatives' as I believe they're now called. There are some residents who leave their rubbish out in bags, which, unsurprisingly, get attacked by foxes.
Some of this, I think, comes from the ruling of a few years ago that rubbish should be 'left at the edge of curtilage' on collection days. Of course some people, and I don't really blame them, don't want to have a rubbish bin outside their house so making their property look like a small municipal site (
"An Englishman's Home Is His Municipal Waste Site") but surely better that than having rats running around and rubbish all over the place...
Is this all a result of Bromley Council's desperate aim for the quickest service possible, even if that's at the expense of a good quality service?
Just so that I don't seem obsessively negative about Bromley Council I'll finish with two positive notes. Firstly I reported a non-working lamppost, and secondly, a few weeks later, a pot-hole in the road just outside my neighbour's house (from which stones were being spread across the road, possibly dangerously). Both things were fixed in just a few days of being reported. Nice work, Bromley!
