Thanks for the mention today. The Harris results are also out today and are outstanding:

Crystal Palace held with 5A-C at 99%, 5A-C with English and Maths rose from 82% to 88% (national averasge 50 %)
South Norwood 5A-C went to 100% (was 38% three years ago) and with English and Maths rose from 42% to 60% (was 20% when Harris started three years ago).
Harris Purley  has been open for one year and 5A-C has hit 86% with 5A-C with English and Maths rising from 33% in the predecessor school to 47% now.

The KPSC results are also much improved this year (5 A-C 28%-46%)  and pupils should be rightly proud of themselves.

This however was achieved with the help of a huge amount of additional funding and special advisors, all of which has been withdrawn now; its not sustainable.

Our campaign is now getting emails from parents of children at Kelsey saying what a great opportunity Harris would have been for Kelsey, its an exciting time and deserves to be looked at.

If anyone wants further info or wants a copy of the letters we have from the DFE and Jonathan Hill the Academies Minister which confirms Harris is their prefered sponsor of the school please email :  fjmurphy@fsmail.net   or cazbateman@gmail.com

I would like to congratulate Bromley Council's PR department on a good attempt at re-writing history, I have nearly stopped laughing.

I would not worry too much Jon as the truth is here on this forum, in addition  Bromley Council's true position was highlighted time after time in The Telegraph, The Spectator, The Sunday Express, The Guardian.....I could go on; here is a very recent Telegraph article again mentioning Bromley Council's position - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/8604407/Whos-blocking-our-chil...

The fact is if Bromley Council had not taken the stance they did there would have been no need for our parents campaign, the council continued with their "family of schools" mantra long after the Academies Act came into force in July 10 - they are at the forefront of reforms now because their whole family has left home!

We all know what the DFE thought of Bromley Council's position; the emails and letters are all posted on this forum. It may well suit the DFE that everyone plays nicely now but I doubt that means last year has been forgotten.

I also doubt the hundreds of local parents who worked hard over the best part of a year to get Michael Gove's agenda in place in (Tory?) run Bromley will forget last year in a hurry however, as Jon says we need to look forward and both new Harris Academies in Beckenham have got off to a great start.

How are we defining a 'great start'?

"Dinky". I have no idea how you would define a "great start". I would say a "great start" is lots of children, especially year 7's coming out of school reporting good things, as Jon stated yesterday. I guess a "great start" may mean different things to different people; you have always chosen to post on here anonymously so you may be a parent, a prospective parent, a member of the public, a member of Bromley council......I would really have no idea how you would define a "great start".

Have a good weekend.

Does anyone know how the new Harris school is doing in Beckenham? Also, what is there next intake like, did they get an even mix of boys & girls?

Very interested in any unbiased info as I have a son who is now in YR 5 & I am still undecided about where I would like him to go.

Also if they are to go co-educational, would the catchment areas shift accordingly?

Good news for Beckenham on the BBC site today. Both new Harris Academies in Beckenham have been allocated a share of a new 2 Billion pound pot to improve/replace school buildings. Both the previous schools missed out on cash under the BSF scheme so this is surely good news.

If you want to view the list follow the link to the DFE page for the full list of schools, you can see the two Harris schools in Beckenham are the only schools in Bromley to have been successful. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-18190016

Fantastic news! Hopefully we'll see plans and work commence in time for my daughter/s to benefit.

Surprise surprise...little bit of governmental support for a pet project.

Still, it should get he asbestos out of the walls.

Asbestos in the walls did not concern Bromley council when they allocated 25million pounds to Langley Boys for a rebuild under the BSF scheme, despite independant assesments stating both the Beckenham schools were in greater need of the cash, it was up to the council who the money went to and it went to Langley Boys.

This was not posted to dig at anyone which is why I did not comment on the previous allocation of money but as usual Dinky you pop up here with your clever remarks which is easy to do when no one knows who you are.

You are quite right Fiona and I'm glad to see the schools are finally getting some of the concern they deserve. I'm just someone who thinks society will come to regret the decision to turn schools into businesses.

I just wanted to say how impressed my son, and I have been with the new Harris Academy Beckenham since he joined y7 back in September. Both he and the Academy are making great strides in all areas. I really wanted to help out so put myself forward and have recently become Parent Governor at the school so if anyone needs help, or has a question please pm me and I'll do my best to assist.

- Disclaimer: all views are my own and not necessary that of the Governing body :-)

The Academy also has an active Parents Forum that meets regularly, that I am part of, so if you are a parent at HABE and want to get involved more please get in touch.

Good for you, James. Glad to hear it's all working out O.K. Hope the great strides of progress continue. Many thanks & Best Wishes to all involved in the Governing Body and in the Parents Forum. REG
