How to stop Twitter DM SPAM

There have been more of these Twitter DM and non-DM spam tweets - such as:

Someone is posting a pic of you all over twitter ;( link2pic here URL://///

or

ROFL this pic i found of you had me dying lol URL://///

or

Hey did you see my post about how i make money from home? try it out, just visit URL:////

 

BEST ADVICE IS TO IGNORE - DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK OR DO WHATEVER IT ASKS YOU TO DO NEXT

it will then have control of your twitter account and then start the process of sending spam out via your profile as well. If you find your profile is doing this already then you'll need to change your Twitter password. And I suggest you read this too Compromised Accounts & How to Report a Violation to Twitter

Jon (or anyone else who tweets) I wonder if you can help. This week I decided to start a twitter account as I wanted to follow local tweets such as you.....now beginning to wish I had not bothered! Today I have had two "spam" type messages (which I have not clicked on) both claiming to be from @MsAlliance who I had elected to follow. I deleted the first one but I got sent another.

I can see on twitter @MsAlliance has apologised and advised people to change passwords. Which passwords would that be - for my new twitter account? This tweeting stuff seems problamatic!

I joined as @murphybeckenham - but now too scared to try a tweet!

Don;t be scared to tweet at all, but always be mindful of DM or Direct Messages even from people you know if they come out of the blue and seem to be like the ones above. By changing passwords it means MsAlliance changes hers as it was her account that was compromised. That's just the Net for you in general. Twittercould try and do more about this, but liek all new social media platform that grows so quick the people behind it don;t have the capability to always sort the chaos that can ensue. Facebookers know of fake emails, Yahoo & MSN messenger get the same and even YouTube. So go ahead and tweet, and just distrust DM messages that seem to want to give you a link to click on. If you are accessing Twitter on PC then by placing your cursor over the link can sometimes reveal the real URL and if it's not something you know and that the web address doesn't look to be added too in some strange way like ebay-uk-corp.com when you know it should be ebay.com then don't click on it. Good luck, don;t let the spammers win. It's all a learning curve, we've all been conned and caught out at times.

Latest Twitter DM hackery is looking like this, so if you receive any just delete it, don't click it & tweet this page to your friends, especially those infected and hacked.

'Hey, theres someone writing nasty blogs about you, I found one of them here - LINK'

Remember they want you to sign-in off the link to hojack your twitter account and then send out spam which you'll know nothing about unless your followers alert you and then you'll have to sign-in to twitter and change your password quick if you can to arrest back your account.
