Lots of Twitter DM SPAM is being generated by users who click on Direct Message posts they receive and this is how to stop Twitter DM SPAM
DM Messages look like these:
'i made $891 today check out how i made it - URL Link'
'did you lose weight in this picture? - URL Link'
'haha my friend showed me this pic of you.. - URL Link'
'you're in this blog.... - URL Link'
'no prescription required for your viagra, cialis, soma and more - URL Link'
'Someone said this real bad thing about you in a blog.... - URL Link'
The URL Link - a shortened URL - then goes mainly through to what looks like the Twitter home page - but BEWARE - check out the URL in your browser and you will see it's not really Twitter. It might say something like http://mspaworldwide.net/twitter/?login/session (DO NOT USE THIS) - It's masquerading as Twitter.com and as soon as you log in it captures your account and starts sending out DM Spam to all your followers.
I'm sorry to say that all you can do to stop this is go into the real www.Twitter.com and login and change your password as soon as possible to rescue and take back control of your account.
If of course you have lots of social media/app etc logins created using your Twitter sign-in you will have to update them too with your new password.
One last thing to do is to push the powers that be at Twitter to fight against these spammers and throw some major resource at it. So please do tweet to them @Twitter and hopefully these outbreaks will lessen.
Right, now tweet, facebook and email this page to all your friends, followers and colleagues and educate them too - they'll surely thank you - cheers JC
There have been more of these Twitter DM and non-DM spam tweets - such as:
Someone is posting a pic of you all over twitter ;( link2pic here URL://///
ROFL this pic i found of you had me dying lol URL://///
Hey did you see my post about how i make money from home? try it out, just visit URL:////
BEST ADVICE IS TO IGNORE - DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK OR DO WHATEVER IT ASKS YOU TO DO NEXT
it will then have control of your twitter account and then start the process of sending spam out via your profile as well. If you find your profile is doing this already then you'll need to change your Twitter password. And I suggest you read this too Compromised Accounts & How to Report a Violation to Twitter
Stay safe out there... :-)
Jon (or anyone else who tweets) I wonder if you can help. This week I decided to start a twitter account as I wanted to follow local tweets such as you.....now beginning to wish I had not bothered! Today I have had two "spam" type messages (which I have not clicked on) both claiming to be from @MsAlliance who I had elected to follow. I deleted the first one but I got sent another.
I can see on twitter @MsAlliance has apologised and advised people to change passwords. Which passwords would that be - for my new twitter account? This tweeting stuff seems problamatic!
I joined as @murphybeckenham - but now too scared to try a tweet!
Latest Twitter DM hackery is looking like this, so if you receive any just delete it, don't click it & tweet this page to your friends, especially those infected and hacked.
'my wife is always telling me how happy she is with my new income - LINK'
'Hey, theres someone making nasty blogs about you, check them out - LINK'
'Would you be interested in making double your current pay? - LINK'
'Is your current job negatively affecting your life? - LINK'
'hey brother go to this: - LINK'
'it's been ages since we spoke go here: - LINK'
'Hey, theres someone writing nasty blogs about you, I found one of them here - LINK'
Remember they want you to sign-in off the link to hojack your twitter account and then send out spam which you'll know nothing about unless your followers alert you and then you'll have to sign-in to twitter and change your password quick if you can to arrest back your account.
