That's not surprising at all. I work near Biggin Hill and there are loads of deer there all the time*, feeding out in the open in herds of well over a dozen. That's the countryside of course, but here's no reason why they shouldn't 'come into town' so to speak, like other wild animals, since there are plenty of leafy avenues leading to Beckenham from the countryside. Driving on the Kingston Bypass the other week - even further into London – one suddenly leaped over the Armco barrier, missed me by inches, dodged between the fast-moving vehicles and disappeared from sight between the houses.
* Not so common are WW2 Hawker Hurricanes, but we saw one of those today too.
Well you might have been, but there was a resident deer in Upper Elmers End Road a couple of years ago - set up home at the back of the houses next to the railway track. Yes, Bethlem does have deer too.
