When our son was approaching year 6 it dawned on us that we had to make a very important choice, which was to select a secondary school for him. We looked at several schools in Bromley and despite alot of discrimination about Kelsey Park Sports College, we thought we would not listen to others and make our own minds up. We viewed the school like we did the others and spoke to teachers and Mr LLoyd, after hearing so many bad comments about Kelsey, we came home from viewing the school pleasantly suprised.

Two years on our son is in year 8 at Kelsey and is doing extremley well. His friends are also doing well and are very much enjoying their senior years so far. Our son has won awards and is an Ambassador for the school, we are so proud of him.

Many parents in the KSPC parents forum had the same attitude towards Kelsey when their son first started in year7, however, since experiencing the college and  recognising their son's happiness and achievments, they have realised that the college is a good one.

Many local parents have a thought on Kelsey Park Sports College, and I feel an un-just one! Alot of people listen to others and (like sheep) follow the crowd. It is a shame, as if we were to change our attitude in life and opened our minds to our own thoughts, we could stop the bullying and discrimination.

I was at the Council meeting on tuesday and the council are fully behind making the school a good one, if all effort went into this and not against it, you will have an outstanding boys school in Beckenham.

I concur with sophie, also, I wish people would think how demoralising it is for the boys that attend KPSC, they are working hard at school, my son is full of enthusiasm for the year ahead and what he wants to achieve and it is upsetting when he reads all the negative comments about his school.
I also agree with you Sophie - you have made some very valid points, i particularly like the "sheep" comment
if only these parents of children with no children yet at kelsey listened to us parents of children actually attending the school i am sure their bias would change.

Apart from the damaging comments which must surely be aimed at the teaching staff, the negitivity of this campaign also must affect the boys who may think they are attending a sub standard school, when in fact this is not the case and the teaching staff I have had interaction with have proved to be very interested in achieving the best for the boys

My nephew attended Kelsey Park up until last year. He arrived in year 10, having had a dififcult experience at another school. The staff were immensely supportive. He arrived at the school with little chance of educational progress and left with a string of GCSEs. The school provides a nurturing and suppportive environment to the many boys who are lucky enough to attend, and those who arrive with academic ability achieve outstanding results.

There are three paths to academy status. Either the school is in special measures (it is not), it has results below the floor target of 30% 5 A - C inc English and maths (Kelsey's results last year were 16% above this) or it is judged by OFSTED as outstanding (it has not been).

None of those paths to academy status apply to the school.
