Tonight www.BeckenhamTown.us and Twitter @Beckenham officially won 'Beckenham's Best Community Project' award at the red carpet ceremony event 'Beckenham's Night of Honour' organised by the Citygate Church, nominated by residents and attended by members of the public and local dignatories; including the Mayor of Bromley, Head and Chief Executive of Bromley Council, Local Beckenham MP Colonel Bob Harris and the Head of Bromley's police force.
There were several awards over the evening, which no doubt you will find more about on at www.beckenhamsbest.co.uk once it has been updated after tonight's ceremony.
I'd like to say a big 'THANKS' to those that nominated me. My family and I are to say the least blown away and overwhelmed. After all, there were so many more greater deserving local people who won other categories tonight and after hearing what they do and go through or what some have achieved you have to realise it's them that should always be centre stage.
It's ordinary people in our community that do outstanding things; some because they have to, others because they choose to; and they don't have to be the only ones, the stage should be filled with everyone, because it's not too difficult to help out a neighbour, engage a councillor, organise or help in a local event or charity, create things for kids and teens to do etc. And even if these all feel a little too epic to start off with, then a simple good information tweet to locals, or discussion on here gets you to be an active part of a neighbourhood we all really want for ourselves and our families and makes a great community we can all be proud of.
