Just to back up Jon's earlier posting about the Olympic Torch's route through Beckenham on Monday 23 July, I've scoured the Internet to find any additional Beckenham details.

The torch is scheduled to come from the Bromley direction and pass through the Kelsey House traffic lights just before 10am, then travel along Beckenham high street to the cinema roundabout, and then along the main road past Clock House station on its way to Penge and then Crystal Palace Park.

You can see the Beckenham part of the route at:

NB: The map key panel seems to suggest that the torch will be carried by a vehicle (Torch Relay Route - Vehicular), with an actual feet-on-the-ground human runner (Torch Relay Route - Runner) only being used in Crystal Palace Park. This surely can't be right since there is no evidence of that happening elsewhere, and there are well over 20 torchbearers nominated to carry the torch through the Borough. Perhaps it's just badly-worded. Or it's true, and I'm just not up to speed on this.

And what are we doing to welcome the torch in Beckenham?  I am really keen to organise something and am trying to rally local friends to come and cheer it on followed by a picnic in the park. Anyone want to join us?

10 am is a better time - I'd heard rumours of morning rush hour - that would have been fun!

I shall certainly go and wave if it's a person running...especially if it happens to be Floella Benjamin...

There is a planned event outside Beckenham Baptist Church from 8:30am on the 23rd. We'll be providing bacon sarnies and tea and coffee, as well as shelter to stand under if this glorious weather continues...

Everyone is welcome to come and join us (opposite The Spa).

One of our members is a TfL Travel Ambassador and he'll be there to offer advice of Games Time Travel on Public Transport.

Hello! I've just joined and have found this site really useful so far. I will be coming to watch with my little boy so hopefully see some of you there!

Hello, I hope to provide a little ray of sunshine with news of an event that will take place that for the olympic torch relay through Beckenham.

After being asked by the Beckenham Business Association, I can confirm that Beckenham Junior Choir will perform a concert to welcome the torch and carriers.

The children will be singing principally songs celebrating London ( songs of Lodnon town), they will be based around the Beckenham War memorial and start singing around 9.30, depending on the torch travel itself ( time is still  approximate, I should be able to confirm around the 18 of July).

I hope this please those who were looking  to organise something  to welcome the torch, we look forward to make this occasion even more special.

Silvia

PS: please feel free to spread the news amongst friends

where are Beckenham Junior Choir singing? my girls used to be in it so would like to come & be supportive!

Does anyone know if will we actually be having a runner with the Olympic flame?

The flags and bunting are finally going up for Monday's Olympic Torch run relay which passes through the town centre - here's the road by road by time list too of the route and when to wave :-)
